Establishing a Bridgehead for Economic Cooperation: PCCK Signs MOU with the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI)

The Pakistan Chamber of Commerce in Korea (PCCK), a non-profit organization, has achieved its first international achievement since the inauguration of its second president, Jong-Gwang Lee, opening a new chapter in economic cooperation between Korea and Pakistan.

The PCCK announced on October 24, 2024 that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation with the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GCCI), a major industrial city in Pakistan.

The meaning of strategic partnership

This MOU aims for both organizations to jointly promote and support commercial and industrial cooperation between the two countries. Gujranwala is a key industrial city in Pakistan's Punjab Province, a region with a thriving manufacturing and export industry. Therefore, this agreement holds significant significance as it establishes a direct link between PCCK and a key economic hub in Pakistan. This marks the first concrete action taken by Chairman Lee Jong-kwang, who pledged to serve as a "bridge between Korea and Pakistan" in his inaugural address, and is a strategic step toward providing member companies with substantial business opportunities.

A long-term vision beyond a simple agreement

This MOU signing is not a one-time event, but rather part of PCCK's systematic, long-term international cooperation strategy. According to PCCK's 2025 business plan, this MOU is a crucial first step toward a bigger picture.

The PCCK plans to dispatch an official business delegation to Pakistan in the second half of 2025. The delegation will visit Gujranwala to discuss specific implementation measures for the recently signed MOU with GCCI and to launch the "PCCK Gujranwala Liaison Office," which will be established locally. This demonstrates the PCCK's firm commitment to establishing a local presence and building a sustainable cooperative system, going beyond a formal agreement.

This step-by-step approach demonstrates PCCK's strategic depth: first, establishing a formal relationship (MOU), then concretizing the partnership through the dispatch of a high-level delegation, and finally institutionalizing cooperation through the operation of a local office.

Expanding the collaborative network

PCCK's vision for international cooperation extends beyond Gujranwala. The plan to dispatch a delegation in the second half of 2025 also includes the goal of signing MOUs with chambers of commerce in Lahore, Pakistan's economic hub, and the capital, Islamabad. The successful signing of the MOU with the Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry will serve as a positive momentum for securing these additional partnerships. This demonstrates PCCK's ambitious plan to build a broad network of collaborations with key economic players across Pakistan, providing comprehensive support to its member companies.

Beginning with this MOU with GCCI, PCCK will build a robust economic cooperation platform that will enable companies from both countries to reap tangible benefits. We ask for your continued interest and support in PCCK's continued international cooperation activities.
